High Alert! Extra Care
It was yesterday that terror struck an international conference at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) campus on Wednesday night killing a retired Mathematics professor from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, M C Puri, and seriously injuring four others including one of the inventors of the Simputer, Prof Vijay Chandru from IISc.
Following the attack, the Bangalore police imposed a nakabandhi in the city and were screening all vehicles.
Environment is scary and insecure. This morning on my way to office , though bugged with all traffic signals still enjoying the ride...there was no fear in mind till I reached office gate . There were four guys to stop me to ask for my badge. Its tough when you ride a bike on the way to stop , open jerkin and take out the card all this should happen in microseconds time and push off in(if they are OK! if not take U-turn) else you will be hit or honked by one of your colleague behind your vehicle.
Positive side of it is they care for us and thats why they do it...so I dont mind..from tomorrow I have decided to display my badge outside the jerkin. There is another danger here , earlier we were warned to take off our Id bages and keep it safe in the bag / pocket as soon as we are out of our office campus , there is a danger of attack if they find that you are a software guy / employed and they tend to think that you have bundles of currencies tucked in!.
Where do we go from here? Life in Bangalore seems to be horrifying!
Ithatha called up last night to tell me this incident at IISc when we were in the making of "2-Minute Maggi". I was in the kitchen (matter of fact reached home early for a change , went out for getting grocery with Shabin to foodays) and was cutting vegetable for our Noodles dinner.!
Still things will happen what has to happen ..after the call center employee's murder mental setup is not that OK..for IT/ITES crowd...and now another science sector...which was quite unexpected and was on a very normal day ...I was not aware of an international conference at IISc happening but certainly it should not come as news with such happenings.
It was sickening to read in a morning daily today that "Bangalore is a potential target" and who is taking care of all terrorist tasks?
Take care all Bangaloreans! Have a terror-free day!
